After a questioned performance During a televised debate with former president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on June 27, US President Joe Biden is facing dissenting voices within the Democratic Party calling for him to withdraw from the race.
Biden, meanwhile, vowed to go on, win and prove himself “up to the task.”
“At a meeting of Senior House Democratsseveral aides said on Sunday, July 7, that they believed Biden should step aside (…) Raising to regarding 10 the number of House Democrats calling for him to step aside,” The Wall Street Journal detailed, citing “sources familiar” with the matter.

Among those calling for Biden to step aside were, according to the financial outlet, Jerry Nadler and Joe Morelle, both congressmen from New York, as well as Adam Smith of Washington, Jim Himes of Connecticut and Mark Takano of California, among others.
According to this same publication, the group of Democrats once morest Biden does not have a consensus to select a replacement candidate.
Meanwhile, Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida urged fellow Republicans who are skeptical of Biden to put their trust in him, as well as others who have rallied around the Democratic president.
Wilson urged “stop undermining this amazing leader that has achieved real results for our country.”

On July 7, Joe Biden held several campaign events in Pennsylvania, a swing state with significant implications for the elections, accompanied by Democratic senators John Fetterman and Bob Case.
Los House Democrats to meet on Tuesday, July 9 in the morning and Biden’s future is expected to be one of the topics discussed, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The Democratic National Convention, where the party is expected to formally nominate Biden as its presidential nominee, will be held in Chicago from August 19 to 22.
