Democratic Republic of the Congo: Bomb at the market leaves at least 20 injured | Africa

On January 25, an army spokesman said at least 20 people were injured in the incident bomb at a small market in Beni city, North Kivu province, northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

DRC military spokesman in the Beni area, Captain Anthony Mwalushayi, added that an improvised explosive device was placed in a bag containing cassava near a flour mill at the market.

Most of the injured were women selling goods when the device exploded. At least seven people were seriously injured.

Captain Mwalushayi said: “We don’t have enough details at the moment, but security forces and specialized agencies have sealed off the site of the explosion to investigate,” and blamed the tragedy on Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.

Earlier this month, at least 14 people die and regarding 60 others were injured when a bomb exploded at a local church in Kasindi, North Kivu province. Kinshasa authorities also blamed the attack on ADF rebels.

Eastern part of Democratic Republic of the Congo has faced a lot of instability due to its origin from militia groups, especially ADF rebels and the 23/3 Movement (March 23).M23), a common challenge for countries in the region.
