Democratic Party’s top members call for ‘special prosecutor Kim Kun-hee’

“We have to watch the investigation first”… Judiciary’s appointment is not enough

On the 29th, the top members of the Democratic Party of Korea discussed the promotion of a special prosecutor’s law against President Yoon Seok-yeol’s spouse, Kim Kun-hee.

At the first meeting of the Supreme Council on the same day, Chan-dae Park said, “If the prosecution and the police continue to investigate Mrs. Kim, the Democratic Party will pursue a special prosecutor in accordance with the will of the people and the law.” “The special prosecutor’s bill has already been proposed to find out the truth about Kim Gun-hee’s stock price manipulation and false career case,” said Park. Earlier, on the 22nd, Rep. Kim Yong-min proposed the special prosecution law against Mrs. Kim as a representative.

Seo Young-gyo, a member of the Supreme Council, said, “It was confirmed that Kim Hye-kyung (who is Lee Jae-myung’s spouse) paid for the meal herself, but the Yun Seok-yeol government seized and searched 129 times. She said, “Isn’t President Yoon Seok-yeol’s wife, who manipulated billions of dollars in stock prices, seized and searched at least 1290 times?” She also urged that “a neutral and fair investigation should be conducted through a special prosecutor.” Chief Commissioner Jang Gyeong-tae also said, “We will see if the prosecution and the police properly investigate the allegations of stock manipulation and false career of Mrs. Kim.”

The floor leadership and representative Lee Jae-myung showed an attitude that they would watch the police investigation. Park Hong-geun, the floor leader, met with reporters after the top-level meeting and said, “I know there is a deadline for the investigation of the police and prosecutors related to Mrs. Kim, but you have to take that into consideration.” “The idea that this is inevitable will grow,” he said. Spokesperson Park Seong-joon also said, “There is a precondition for the special prosecutor’s investigation to be insufficient.”

It is not easy for the special prosecution bill to cross the threshold of the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee through opposition from the people. The Democratic Party is of the opinion that it will actively review the issue of fast track designation if the chairperson of the People’s Power Judiciary does not propose the special prosecution law, but the current Democratic Party has 169 seats, and 180 seats are needed for fast track designation.
