Democratic Party Votes on Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

United States – The Democratic Party Conference Committee submitted a draft program for a vote by party delegates on Tuesday regarding the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

The project allows Arab countries and the international community to help rebuild the Strip, and stresses that reaching an agreement would create the conditions for a better future for the Palestinian people.

According to the draft resolution that will be presented to the conference delegates for a vote, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris oppose any unilateral steps, including the annexation of lands that undermine the establishment of a two-state solution.

The draft program stresses continuing to stand against incitement and “terrorism” and opposing settlement expansion.

The bill also opposes any effort to isolate and delegitimize Israel “unfairly,” including at the United Nations or through the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, while protecting the constitutional right to freedom of expression, according to the bill.

The Democratic Party Conference kicked off in Chicago, Illinois, and will continue until the end of next Thursday, when its sessions will conclude with a speech by Vice President Kamala Harris, announcing her acceptance of the party’s nomination for the 2024 elections.

The party convention will give Harris a platform to present her vision to an American audience still trying to understand her orientation.

Security has been tightened ahead of the party’s convention in Chicago, where tens of thousands are expected to take to the city’s streets to protest the Democratic administration’s pro-Israel stance in the 10-month-old war that has caused a catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
