Video Demi Vollering surprised on Tuesday with a time trial win in the Tour de France Femmes. The SD Worx-Protime rider was faster than time trial champion Chloe Dygert and Loes Adegeest. “The plan was actually to take over the yellow jersey later this week,” an emotional Vollering said afterwards in the flashinterview.

“I really didn’t expect this. I didn’t think I could do this. I just had to survive these first few days. I mainly wanted to enjoy these days in the Netherlands. Today, tomorrow’s stage was actually on my mind the whole time. That stage seems really great, because I love Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Today, that was mainly on my mind.”

Vollering digested the morning ride very well, the Dutch woman said. “I even slept twice after the morning ride. Two good powernaps. I was so relaxed. I had no expectations, I didn’t even think the podium was possible. I thought it was something for the sprinters or time trial specialists. (…) It’s now up to the other teams to take over my yellow jersey. It’s nice that I already have it. The plan was to take the jersey later.”
