The workshop for children on the topic “Dementia affects us all” will take place on Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the large hall of the Zwettl parish home.
TWETTL. Grandparents are often important caregivers for children, and that doesn’t have to change if they develop dementia. However, it is necessary to explain the disease to the children.
Age-appropriate factual knowledge is reasonable
Children are very open to the topic and, equipped with age-appropriate knowledge, can deal with the disease better. Under no circumstances should the children be fobbed off with incorrect information or contact with people with dementia should be restricted. The workshop “Dementia affects us all” does educational work on this difficult topic and provides technical details using materials to “BE-GRIFEN”. The children get an insight into the world of the brain, learn what types of memory there are, how dementia develops and what changes the disease can bring with it.
At the stations of a Montessori-oriented dementia course, the children can feel how the impairments affect everyday activities.
The workshop, which was successfully held at the Young University in Krems in July, can be visited as part of the FERIENSPIEL in Zwettl.
