The Moroccan Association for Citizenship and Human Rights in Tan Tan called for strengthening maritime control and applying strict legal penalties on illegal fishing practices, with the need to raise awareness of the importance of preserving marine resources, encouraging sustainable fishing practices, as well as involving civil society and ensuring that human rights defenders are not harassed while monitoring and documenting environmental violations within ports.

A statement issued by the Moroccan Association for Citizenship and Human Rights stated that the latter seeks to shed light on the great danger posed by illegal fishing, as it is a violation that threatens the environmental balance and marine resources, in addition to being a depletion of fish wealth, which has far-reaching negative repercussions on the marine environment and the livelihoods of coastal communities.

In the same statement, a copy of which was received by Agadir 24, the association considered these practices to be a violation of national legislation regulating marine fishing, and a violation of international agreements ratified by Morocco.

In the same context, the League praised the efforts of the Royal Gendarmerie in combating this phenomenon, especially after its recent field interventions in the port of Ouatia in Tan Tan, and the port of Sidi Ifni, with the aim of combating illegal fishing of fish below commercial size.
