The recent publication made by Brazilian Association of Technology for Construction and Mining (Sobratema)revealed that the outlook for the construction machinery sector in 2024 is positive, indicating a possible reinvigoration following an estimated 13% drop in sales in 2023. According to the unprecedented Sobratema Study of the Brazilian Construction Equipment Market, the expectation is that demand reaches 52.4 thousand units sold, compared to the 60.3 thousand units registered in 2022.

The survey, presented during the 18th Trends in the Construction Market by Mario Miranda, coordinator of the Market Study, suggests a 6% growth in construction machinery sales next year. Specifically for the yellow line, intended for earthmoving, the forecast is for an increase of 7% in 2024, contrasting with the estimated decline of 21% this year compared to 2022, when 31 thousand units were sold.

The published content showed that there is optimism in the construction machinery market in 2024, with 76% of businesspeople interviewed believing in growth in this area next year. In the construction sector, as disclosed in the content, expectations are also positive for 54% of respondents.

José Antônio Valente, director of the equipment rental franchise Franquias Trans Obra stated that it is important to note that the study not only identifies current trends, but also offers valuable insights to guide the strategic planning of companies in the sector. “The analysis also highlights the importance of specific factors, such as the projected 21% reduction in yellow line sales in 2023. This signals specific challenges facing the sector and highlights the need for adaptive strategies to mitigate these declines.”

On the subject, Miranda said that, in terms of sales, the two segments with the highest market share – construction (37%) and rental (26%) – total 63%. For companies that reported growth this year, the average increase was 16%.

Also in the publication, Eurimilson Daniel, vice-president of the Brazilian Association of Technology for Construction and Mining (Sobratema), also commented on the subject. “We see strategic intelligence on the part of machine users, especially construction companies, who are interspersing the use of their fleet with rental. Therefore, the percentage of parked fleet fell to 19%, compared to 57% in 2017”, he explained on the topic.

Still on the publication made by Sobratema, which can be consulted in the link provided at the beginning of this article, it is possible to observe information regarding credit, highlighted by those interviewed in the Market Study, Luís Artur Nogueira who considered the Selic rate, stating that it might continue to fall , which might reach below 10% in 2024, depending on whether or not the new fiscal framework is complied with, and the geopolitical situation between countries in the world today.
