The UN Security Council will consider a resolution on Monday calling on Israel to immediately end illegal immigration in the occupied Palestinian territories. The resolution calls for maintaining the status quo since 1967 and calls illegal immigration in the Palestinian territories a challenge to international law. The new intervention of the UN Security Council comes at a time when the Netanyahu government has announced plans to spread illegal immigration to centers including East Jerusalem. It is expected that the fifteen-member UN Security Council will vote in favor of the resolution.
The European countries have expressed their opposition once morest the immigration project and are continuing to work strongly under the Arab League to get the support of the maximum number of countries in the West Bank and elsewhere. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also expressed concern over the new situation. In 2016, the United States abstained from the resolution passed by the UN Security Council once morest Israel. The Netanyahu government is hoping that America’s veto will help Israel.
