Delta, Omicron, cold, flu: here’s how to tell them apart


Here are several things that help differentiate symptoms between different viruses.

Recent tests in mice and hamsters have shown that the Omicron variant causes less serious infections, often limited to the upper respiratory tract (in the nose, throat and trachea).

The symptoms of the latter therefore sometimes look strangely like a simple cold, “and many patients still often confuse the two”, notes the professor of general medicine at the VUB Dirk Devroey.
