“Each sector of the city is marked. We will have a striker in front of each major restaurant chain – McDonald’s, KFC, etc. – to block orders all weekend. We put this together very quickly, in three weeks, with the help of the CGT, enthuses Karim (who did not give his last name), deliveryman in Marseille. Our blockages are peaceful. We try to explain to the other delivery people that the goal is to hurt Uber and Deliveroo. We don’t want to hold a demonstration: the objective is zero orders delivered. »

The Phocaean initiative responds to a national call for a delivery workers’ strike, Saturday December 2 and Sunday December 3, launched by the CGT and Union-Indépendants (affiliated with the CFDT), which was joined by the SUD-Commerces federation. Actions are expected in around fifty French cities, in the form of blockades or gatherings, like Saturday noon in Paris, Place Stalingrad.

This mobilization of couriers, which promises to be the most followed since the emergence of meal delivery platforms in 2016, follows a drop in the remuneration of the 65,000 workers of the UberEats application, the leader in the sector. “It’s the straw that broke the camel’s back for the anger of delivery people, following years of continuous decline, while inflation is soaring”summarizes Ludovic Rioux, secretary of the CGT-Livreurs. “By taking the sample of 50 delivery drivers who provided us with the figures for nearly 3,110 races before and following the update, we observe that 42 earn less than before, notes Fabian Tosolini, national delegate of Union-Indépendants. The reduction per delivery person is up to 20%. The price of a ride has sometimes fallen by up to 40%. »

“Concerns regarding the new pricing”

The unions attribute this drop to an agreement signed in April between the three main platforms (UberEats, Deliveroo, Stuart) and the National Federation of Autoentrepreneurs (FNAE), which sets a minimum hourly income of 11.75 euros gross… only on travel times, and not counting the waiting time between two services.

The proposals made on November 21 by UberEats were not satisfactory. “After hearing the concerns regarding the new pricing expressed by certain delivery drivers, we implemented reinforced guaranteesexplains to Monde an UberEats spokesperson. We are temporarily increasing the minimum hourly income guarantee from 11.75 euros to 14 euros and we are taking our responsibilities to ensure that the average fare level for trips remains the same. » The unions are demanding a return to the remuneration model in force until October, and more transparency on the rules of the algorithm.
