Reusable systems for food packaging are currently a strong trend in the domestic startup scene. For example, and-less from Vienna lets restaurants “lend” plastic boxes several times for deliveries (we reported). Another young Viennese company that has committed itself to zero waste in food deliveries is Necked. The young company, which only started last March, is an online supermarket with a deposit-free reusable system that is supported by internal cloud software.
Preserving jars are deposit-free for 21 days
Most of Nackad’s products are packaged in reusable jars. The assortment ranges from fruit and vegetables to sweets, dairy products and beverages as well as cosmetics. The producers with whom the startup cooperates pack the products themselves. Nackad’s partner companies include the Öfferl bakery and the Hoflieferanten. For some products, however, the young company also uses paper bags, which it fills itself.
According to the young company, all Nackad product packaging is deposit-free for 21 days. Customers can therefore use the glasses for 21 days free of charge. If you order something once more within this period, the time frame is extended by a further 21 days. The Nackad web shop software can automatically collect the deposit amount following this period. The prices of the online marketplace should be in a similar range to those of the larger supermarket chains.

Nackad has started partnership with Rex Eat
Elias Stehrer, co-founder of Nackad, cares deeply regarding Zero Waste. “It is often difficult for customers to make purchases in this area. Sometimes there are no shops nearby, and it is often necessary to bring your own containers. We want to make Zero Waste as pleasant and therefore as attractive as possible for customers,” says Stehrer. With the reusable glasses, which are deposit-free over a longer period of time, Nackad wants to significantly reduce plastic waste and differentiate itself from the numerous competitors in this area.
The young company wants to focus even more on sustainability in the future, especially in the area of deliveries. For this, Nackad recently started a partnership with Rex Eat. The Viennese company also offers food in jars and is intended to help Nackad set up a delivery system with electric cargo bikes. The startup is also currently in negotiations for a six-figure investment. Should this come regarding, the fresh capital should flow into the team expansion, the further automation of the software and into the vehicles. The startup is also currently working on its own shopping app.
