Delivery of the quality certificate (ISO 17025) to the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police of the General Directorate of National Security.

Today, Tuesday, July 9, in Casablanca, a ceremony was held to award the quality certificate (ISO 17025) to the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police, affiliated with the General Directorate of National Security, which is granted by the American Accreditation and Standardization Organization “The ANSI National Accreditation Board”, in the presence of a group of guests from representatives of the public forces, judicial authorities, public, scientific and academic institutions, and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Morocco.

In addition to the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police obtaining the quality certificate (ISO 17024) for the seventh consecutive year, the current year 2024 was distinguished by the generalization of the quality certificate to all specializations available in this laboratory, represented by the departments of forensic biology, forensic chemistry, drugs, toxicology and line investigation, following undergoing the procedure of inspection, auditing and monitoring a process supervised by experts from the International Center for Criminal Sciences and Justice (GFJC).

The process of awarding the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police of the General Directorate of National Security with the quality certificate (ISO 17025) for its various activities falls within the framework of a partnership between the General Directorate of National Security and the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau (INL) of the US Department of State through its local office in Rabat. This partnership aims to keep pace with the comprehensive development and rehabilitation process that the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police has undergone over the past years and has made it respond to the latest internationally approved standards in the field of harnessing science in police work.

In addition to engaging in the quality system (ISO 17025), the modernization process included the inauguration of the new headquarters of the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police in Casablanca on May 16, 2021. It is a new generation building equipped with integrated infrastructure and advanced working methods that are compatible with the latest internationally adopted standards in the field of criminal investigation, in addition to employing and training advanced scientific competencies, which qualified the laboratory to maintain the international quality certificate for the seventh time in a row, with its expansion this year to include all specializations and branches of forensic sciences.

Since 2016, the General Directorate of National Security has launched a comprehensive modernization process for the scientific and technical police system and strengthening its role in criminal investigations, based on integrating scientific evidence into fair trial processes, and consolidating respect for public rights and freedoms within police work, in addition to the contribution of this precise police specialization to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of police investigations related to emerging crimes and linked to the use of new generations of criminal techniques and methods.
