Dr. Sharma: This situation is extremely concerning. The Yamuna’s health is crucial for both Delhi and Haryana. While industrial and domestic waste from various sources contribute to pollution, untreated sewage outflows are a major culprit. Accusations of purposeful contamination need to be thoroughly investigated. It’s vital to pinpoint the exact sources and hold responsible parties accountable, irrespective of political affiliations.

the Yamuna River, a lifeline for millions in Delhi, has become a flashpoint in the escalating political rivalry between the AAP-led Delhi government and the BJP-led Haryana government. The source of contention? High levels of ammonia in the Yamuna, jeopardizing Delhi’s water supply and raising the stakes ahead of the crucial assembly elections.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has accused the Haryana government of deliberately polluting the Yamuna with untreated sewage and industrial waste, labeling it an “act of water terrorism” aimed at influencing the election results. “In continuation of my letter dated 27 January 2025 highlighting the deliberate attempt by the Government of Haryana to sabotage the water supply of the people of Delhi in an attempt to influence the conduct of free and fair elections in Delhi, I am enclosing a note submitted yesterday i.e. 27 January 2025 by the CEO of Delhi Jal Board to Delhi chief secretary on this matter,” Atishi stated in her letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar.
atishi further emphasized, “Despite knowing the toxic effects of releasing ammonia in raw water supply, the note of CEO of Delhi Jal Board leaves no doubt that it is due to the indiscriminate and deliberate dumping of untreated sewage and industrial waste from Haryana that is causing the present water supply crisis in Delhi. this is not an act of negligence; it is an act of water terrorism to deliberately impact the conduct of free and fair elections in Delhi.”
Adding fuel to the fire, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal also accused the BJP-led governments in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh of “mixing poison” in the Yamuna water, claiming Delhi residents where consuming contaminated drinking water. “BJP has done such an act that has never been seen before. People of Delhi get drinking water from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh…BJP-led Haryana govt has mixed poison in the Yamuna water coming to Delhi. Thanks to Delhi Jal Board engineers who caught this, they stopped that water at Delhi border and didn’t let it enter Delhi.Had that water entered delhi and got mixed with drinking water, several people would have died..,” Kejriwal asserted.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini retaliated, warning kejriwal of legal action for defamation, while BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla slammed Kejriwal for resorting to “ABCD” tactics: “Accuse, blame, conspiracy and divert”.
The escalating water crisis, coupled with the bitter accusations, has painted a grim picture of political maneuvering and public safety concerns. The Delhi elections, now looming closer, promise to be fiercely contested, with the issue of water supply likely to play a crucial role in swaying the voters.

Understanding HTML line Breaks and Paragraphs
When crafting compelling web content, structuring it clearly and logically is paramount. HTML provides essential tools to achieve this, like the
tag for paragraphs and the
tag for line breaks.
The
tag is basic for creating paragraphs, the building blocks of your text content. it delineates distinct sections of text, making your content more readable and organized.
Sometimes, you might want to create a line break within a paragraph without starting a new one. This is where the
tag comes in handy. It effectively inserts a line break, ensuring your text flows naturally and visually appealingly.
here’s a simple example to illustrate:
This is the first line.
This is the second line.
As you can see, the
tag breaks the text at that point, creating a visual separation within the paragraph.
What role can citizen activism play in ensuring that political agendas don’t overshadow the urgent need for effective solutions to the Delhi water crisis?
