New actions were carried out by the unions during the night and Saturday morning, as part of the social conflict at Delhaize. The Zellik depot and thirteen stores were temporarily blocked, the company spokesperson confirmed to the Belga agency.

On the CNE side, we are pleased to have prevented Delhaize trucks from leaving the Zellik depot for five hours, during the night from Friday to Saturday. “The impact of this action was limited and does not pose any problem on the supply of our stores,” says the company spokesperson. “A bailiff and the local police intervened to put an end to the blockage, in a rather calm climate,” he added. The Christian union also notes the intervention was carried out on the basis of a “preventive” order, dated September 13.

On Saturday, between thirteen (according to Delhaize) and around “fifteen” stores (according to the unions) were blocked, mainly in Brussels, but also in Montigny and Nivelles, specifies the CNE. Most have since reopened their doors following interventions by bailiffs, adds the brand.

The common front still denounces what it describes as “contempt for workers’ proposals” on the part of company management. General meetings will take place on Monday in stores in order to consult staff on the proposed memorandum of understanding put on the table on Friday during a meeting in the presence of the Minister of Employment Pierre-Yves Dermagne.

Upon exit, however, the unions had already deplored insufficient measures, as well as the absence of discussions on the points considered essential by the staff representatives.
