Delays in Lockheed Martin Manufacturing and F-35 Delivery, Impact on Belgian Aircraft and Pilot Training

The problems encountered by the manufacturer Lockheed Martin delay the introduction of new software and screens. The United States also refuses to deliver new F-35 planes. The defense now expects the Belgian planes to be delivered with a delay of at least six months.

Our country has purchased 34 F-35A aircraft. These devices are currently in production and in the coming weeks the first will be on the final assembly line. “According to the current schedule, the hardware will be ready in December 2023. The certification and qualification of the software and the final delivery of the aircraft depend on the results of the test campaign and are currently estimated in the second quarter of 2024,” said Defense to VRT NWS.

This means that the training of Belgian pilots (in the USA) will also start later than planned. According to the Defence, if the delay is limited to a few months, it will have no impact on the final gradual operational build-up. The minister’s spokesman also confirmed this to Belga.
