MIXED doubles pair Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja have qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2024 China Open.
Dejan/Gloria managed to defeat the Malaysian pair, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei in three games with a score of 21-15, 13-21, and 21-9 at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, Changzhou, Thursday (19/9).
“Thank God, today we were able to play quite well. From the game, this was our first meeting with them so at first we were still feeling out each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” said Dejan in his statement, Thursday (19/9).
In the match, Dejan admitted that he was quite confident with the game pattern. Although in the second game, the opponent had stolen the victory.
In addition, he also said that the presence of Hendra Setiawan on the sidelines was an additional motivation for them.
“Earlier, in addition to our coach Ci Vita (Marissa), we were also accompanied by Koh Hendra (Setiawan). It certainly added strength and motivation. Both of them are great Indonesian badminton legends so we have no reason to be afraid,” he said.
In line with Dejan, Gloria also admitted that she was very happy to be accompanied by Hendra. “Just found out during the warm-up that Koh Hendra will accompany us too. Very happy for sure,” said Gloria.
Regarding the match, according to Gloria, the opponent’s playing style is similar to that of the Indonesian representative. That is an advantage because Gloria understands how to overcome them. (PBSI/Z-6)
