The Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences (THD) is number one in the world when it comes to entrepreneurship. This is the result of the world conference of the Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU), which took place in Fort Myers, Florida in mid-May. In the ranking of the most innovative universities in the field of entrepreneurial spirit, Deggendorf shares the place with BITZ Ober Schneiding.

After a five-stage evaluation process, DIT was voted the best university in the world in the field of entrepreneurship. With this award, the university prevailed over more than 500 participating universities, including well-known competitors such as Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, Yale, Harvard and TU Munich. The decisive factor for the jury was the meanwhile continuous 360-degree ecosystem of THD. Above all, the trend-setting developments at BITZ Oberschnitting, most recently the integration of venture studios for intensive support and financing of teams in the decisive phases of scaling, were rated as unique.

The award was part of the WURI ranking (The World University Rankings for Innovation) conducted during the HLU conference in Florida. This recognizes universities and colleges that, with their innovative work, have a trend-setting influence on the challenges in the transformation of technologies and the shaping of the economy and society.

This year, the HLU conference was hosted at the renowned Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) following a two-year corona break. The THD opened the conference part Entrepreneurial Spirit with President Prof. Peter Sperber and Prof. Peter Schmieder. Peter Sperber was newly accepted as “Director” of the HLU. The reason for this was, among other things, the outstanding ranking successes of previous years.

In a final ceremony, the baton was handed over from the FGCU to the Franklin University in Lucerne, which will host the next HLU world conference in 2024.
