Christine Lambrecht announced her resignation in a brief statement on Monday. She didn’t admit any mistakes. Her successor will likely be announced on Tuesday. Chancellor Scholz thanked them for their “good work”.
Christine Lambrecht has resigned from her position as Federal Minister of Defence. On Monday she asked the Social Democratic Chancellor Olaf Scholz to be dismissed. In a short press release, Lambrecht said that the “months of media focus” on her person did not allow factual reporting and discussion “regarding the Bundeswehr and security policy decisions in the interests of the citizens of Germany”. For this reason she resigned her position. She did not admit any mistakes in the statement. She just thanked everyone “who is committed to our safety every day”.
