Alait Freja, defense attorney for Nicolás Petro’s ex-partner, denounced that the report presented by the Presidency is false, and that Daysuris Vásquez “spent more time at home than on the street.”
The defense of Daysuris Vásquez asserted that the decision of the Security Chief of the Presidency of the Republic to remove the security scheme from Nicolás Petro’s ex-partner, the son of the President of Colombia, is nothing more than an intimidation action to silence her before she provides information about the alleged irregularities in the financing of Gustavo Petro’s presidential campaign.
“Colombia knows it. It is not necessary to conduct a security study. Everyone knows the risks that Ms. Daysuris Vásquez Castro faces, and we have understood this as an intimidating message to silence her completely or partially. This is happening as the hearing approaches in which she must give her testimony,” said Alait Freja, her lawyer.
It is news today:
Currently, Daysuris is unprotected, as the Prosecutor’s Office removed her security detail in April, which was provided due to her status as a protected witness, after she signed a plea agreement in the case of illicit enrichment against her and Nicolás Petro when he served as a congressman for Atlántico.
According to Freja, his client “only left her home in extreme necessity,” a measure she took after the Prosecutor’s Office removed her robust security scheme, which was reduced to three people assigned by the Presidency.
“She diminished her outings and only left her residence in case of extreme necessity. She would spend many days without leaving her apartment,” the lawyer specified.
Given this situation, Nicolás Petro’s ex-wife’s defense team will request protection for Daysuris Vásquez to ensure she can attend the scheduled hearing in the coming days, where she is expected to provide more details about the alleged irregularities in the financing of Gustavo Petro’s presidential campaign.
