Defense Attorney Addresses False Allegations Against Sebastián Mauvezín in Child Exploitation Case Linked to Former Senator Gustavo Penadés

The defense of Sebastián Mauvezín, accused in the case investigating former senator Gustavo Penadés for the sexual exploitation of minors, referred to the conviction of Romina Celeste Papasso for having fabricated a false chat that implicated his client.

Juan Carlos Fernández Lecchini told El Observador that Papasso’s maneuver with the chats “was complex and marked by savagery against legal goods, and driven by an evident sense of impunity.”

“Today, the conduct of this person was charged and legally punished. The conviction handed down brings Justice for long months of waiting. The waiting, of course, was one of uncertainty, but it was not one of inaction. The law is also a struggle,” said Mauvezín’s lawyer, who is charged for his alleged involvement in the Penadés case.

Papasso had confirmed before prosecutor Alicia Ghione —who leads the investigation into the Penadés case— that she had forged a chat with Sebastián Mauvezín, the History teacher who acted as a link between Penadés and his victims. The chat in question referred to a 14-year-old teenager nicknamed “Benja”.

In that chat, which was proven to be false, the person claiming to be Mauvezín arranged a meeting with Penadés and the minor for a payment of $4,000.

Both Penadés and Mauvezín reported the matter. A report from Meta, the owner of Instagram, confirmed that the Instagram user was managed by Gonzalo Flores, 21 years old, who created that user pretending to be Mauvezín with his email.

Gonzalo, who is currently in prison for theft, stated that he was not the one who created the false profile but that due to his friendship and his “romantic relationship” with Papasso, he lent her his phone to create an Instagram account. With the phone in her possession and having access to the email, Papasso created the false Instagram account.

For this case, she was convicted of the crimes of false reporting and ideological forgery by a private individual.
