Defender of “Colorado” Girard received a fracture of the sternum after a hit by Barbashev and was out until the end of the season

Defender Colorado Samuel Girard received a fracture of the sternum following a hit by Barbashev.

The 24-year-old defender is out for the rest of the season.

Girard was injured early in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup second round series with “Saint Louis” (5:2, 2-1) when the Blues forward Ivan Barbashev attacked him with a forceful reception outside the gate.

The Canadian left the ice with outside help and was taken to the hospital. The judges did not record a violation of the rules by the Russian.

In 67 regular season games NHL Girard scored 28 (5+23) points with a minus 4 utility and an average time on ice of 21:38.

In 7 matches in the current Stanley Cup, he has 3 (1+2) points.
