Defender Jhon Chancellor, who plays for Ecuador’s Universidad Católica, will not be able to attend the Vinotinto squad for the matches against Bolivia and Uruguay due to an injury to his right knee, the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) reported on Saturday.

“Defender Jhon Chancellor will not be able to join the Vinotinto squad for the matches against Bolivia and Uruguay, corresponding to matchdays 7 and 8 of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” the FVF said in a message posted on X.

He also explained that the U.Católica medical team diagnosed Chancellor with an injury to his right knee, which will prevent him from participating in these matches.

According to his club, which posted a message on the same social network, the recovery time will be approximately 12 weeks.

The Venezuelan team did not specify whether there will be a substitute for Chancellor in these two matches.

Venezuela coach, Argentine Fernando ‘Bocha’ Batista, made a squad that includes Rafa Romo, Yeferson Soteldo, Eduard Bello, and Salomón Rondón.

La Vinotinto is in fourth place in the CONMEBOL qualifiers, with two wins, three draws and one loss, which keeps it, for the moment, among those qualified for the World Cup.

Venezuela will play against Bolivia on September 5 in La Paz, and on September 10, they will host the Uruguayan national team.
