Before his lawyer arrived, during the roll call at the start of the hearing, the defendant reacted when the president called him to check that he was present. He stood up in the courtroom, showed a Belgian flag and spat on it.
The file concerning the burning of the Belgian flag in the church of Rebecq had already been examined last November, but the defendant’s remarks before the court – he claimed that Belgium was not a nation and that the Belgians were not a people; he also did not recognize the authority of the King’s prosecutor, whom he described as a “negationist” and claimed to be King Louis XX of France – had led the court to request that he be seen by a psychiatrist to determine whether he was suffering of a mental disorder.
The results of this report were examined at the hearing on Monday, where a second file had therefore been added. The defendant indicated that he had gone to see the psychiatrist but treated the latter as a “Communist Jew” in open session, contesting the conclusions which effectively suggest internment. It is also a measure of internment which was demanded by the public prosecutor.
The defendant indicated that he was currently engaged in political activities “with the aim of a legitimist restoration and in expectation of a military coup” in France.
The court will deliver its judgment on May 22.
