CARLOS Alcaraz will face Jannik Sinner in the final match of the China Open after winning in straight sets over Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal match, Tuesday (1/10).
The third-ranked Spaniard needed 88 minutes to win 7-5, 6-3 over Medvedev, who twice called for a medical timeout to receive treatment on his left leg.
The victory in the semifinals of the China Open was Alcaraz’s eighth consecutive victory after he was knocked out by Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round of the United States (US) Open.
In the final match of the China Open, Alcaraz will face Sinner. The world number one tennis player who is also the defending champion advanced to the final after defeating Chinese wildcard Bu Yunchaokete 6-3, 7-6 (7/3).
Sinner appeared at the China Open after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Saturday (28/9) said it was appealing the decision to free the Italian tennis player from punishment after twice testing positive for doping.
WADA, last month, said the independent court’s decision not to punish Sinner was inappropriate under existing rules.
WADA appealed to the international arbitration court (CAS) saying Sinner should be given a suspension of between one and two years. (bbc/Z-1)
