While the news remains dominated by the request filed by the Guinean Football Federation after the defeat of the national Syli against Tanzania, before CAF, the captain of Syli, Issiaga Sylla, reacted to the defeat of his team. He assumes the responsibilities of the players and deplores the lack of adequate sports infrastructure allowing Guinea to host its home matches.
After Sehrou Guirassy, the current captain of Syli expressed his disappointment at the elimination of the team, apologizing to the supporters. “We express our deep disappointment following the non-qualification of Guinea for CAN 2025 and present our sincere apologies to the Guinean people for this failure,” wrote Issiaga Sylla on his Facebook account.
The Guinean international who plays in Montpellier also affirmed that the lack of infrastructure in the country affects the ability of private players to play certain matches in front of the Guinean sporting public.
“We call on the authorities to invest in football to offer better conditions to future generations of players,” launched Issiaga Sylla, before assuming the responsibility of the players in the face of this situation.
“We fully assume our responsibility and commit to working to transform this failure into a springboard for the future,” he pledged.
As a reminder, since June 2022 the national Syli of Guinea has not played any home matches due to a lack of approved stadiums. The Guinean national team plays its matches between Morocco and Ivory Coast.
