Defeat Islamabad United: Rousseau’s composure, Amir’s fours

In the ninth season of Pakistan Super League, only one match was played on Thursday, but what match was played. Quetta Gladiators continued their winning streak but Islamabad United fought well despite the low score.

The match played at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore was also decided in the last overs even though Islamabad United failed to score a big score for the second time in a row.

Islamabad United scored only 138 runs while batting first, which proved to be quite difficult for Quetta Gladiators.

The Gladiators won the match by three wickets thanks to skipper Riley Russo staying at the crease against his will.

Chasing the target with four wickets falling for just 54, a crucial partnership between Russo and Rutherford looked set to see the Gladiators complete the score easily.

But then Naseem Shah bowled a magic ball to end this fine partnership and open the door for his team to come back once again.

Seeing the ball on which Naseem Shah clean bowled Rutherford, Waqar Younis also could not remain without applauding and he had to say that ‘this delivery is difficult like any other delivery seen in this tournament.’

With the fall of this wicket, Islamabad United got two more wins but Russo stayed at the crease which is not his mood.

Mohammad Amir came to support Russo who hit two important fours in this difficult situation to give his team victory in 10 balls.

Mohammad Amir scored 11 off six balls while captain Russo played an unbeaten innings of 34 runs. Riley Russo was adjudged Man of the Match for his innings.

On behalf of Quetta Gladiators, Jason Roy scored 37 off 18 balls and Rutherford played an important innings of 29 runs.

For Islamabad United, Naseem Shah and captain Shadab Khan took two wickets each while Roman Raees and Haneen Shah took one wicket each.

As for United’s batting, it has been difficult for them to score runs for the second match in a row. Agha Salman scored the most 33 runs on behalf of Islamabad United.

On the other hand, the excellent bowling of Quetta Gladiators’ bowlers is continuing and they are playing an important role in their victories.

The most successful bowlers of the Gladiators were Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Wasim Jr who took three wickets each.

Friday’s match between Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi will be played at Multan Cricket Stadium at 7 PM.
