EC Red Bull Salzburg lost 2-3 at Vienna Capitals. A goal from Robertson was disallowed.

After the bitter 1:7 home defeat before Christmas, the Eisbullen wanted to make amends in the away match once morest the Vienna Capitals on St. Stephen’s Day. In Vienna, Salzburg showed improvement, but ultimately had to admit defeat 2-3.

The Red Bulls showed in the opening minutes that the embarrassing performance once morest Pustertal was still in their bones. First they gave the Capitals a double chance including a goal, then following just 71 seconds of the game the first power play. However, Salzburg goalie David Kickert was able to keep his box clean. Paul Huber had the Bulls’ first high-caliber goal following ten minutes, but he mightn’t get the shot past Caps keeper Stefan Steen.

Both teams had good chances in the second third before Lukas Pfiff broke the deadlock with a powerful shot into the top corner (30′). But the Bulls were given the chance to equalize with a four-minute advantage. Peter Hochkofler took advantage four seconds before time expired (34th).

The Capitals presented once more in the final third. Böhm coldly converted a perfect cross pass to take the lead 2-1 (47′). Five minutes before the end, Salzburg celebrated the equalizer – but too early. After a long examination, the referee team saw that Dennis Robertson’s shot had interfered with the opposing goalkeeper.

The Eisbullen continued to push for the equalizer, but as soon as keeper Kickert was off the ice, Lukas Kainz hit a shot across the entire ice surface. Just seven seconds following the restart, Ryan Murphy gave Salzburg hope once more with a quick goal. However, the equalizer was no longer possible in the remaining 38 seconds. “We really struggled once more, but the boys’ effort was significantly better than in the last game once morest Pustertal,” said Salzburg coach Oliver David.
