Ukraine is already negotiating with foreign creditors regarding debt restructuring, and there is a high probability that they will be completed by August, Maksym Samoiluk, an economist at the Center for Economic Strategy, predicts. write edition of Inkorr.

“Ukraine needs to solve the problem with external private debt by August. In particular, from 2022, external private creditors have agreed to allow us to suspend payments on this debt. Actually, this period ends in August, so we need to decide what to do with this debt. Currently, the government of Ukraine is negotiating with external creditors,” Samoiluk said.

However, according to him, the probability of a complete default in Ukraine remains. However, this does not benefit either party.

“Now we are talking regarding restructuring. Not the extension of this grace period, but restructuring and agreeing on a plan for our future payments. Ukraine insists that this is a restructuring plan that is quite profitable for us. Over the next few years, we have to reduce the volume of our liabilities The foreign creditors have agreed to this. It is not yet known whether we will have time to reach an agreement. However, there is a possibility that we will have to suspend certain payments , such a scenario is not beneficial to us or our creditors. Therefore, most likely, the restructuring plan will be approved,” he added.
