John Deere announces investment of more than R$ 700 million in the Catalão (GO) factory

John Deere, a global technology company that provides software and equipment for the agricultural, construction and forestry sectors, announced this Monday (22) an investment of more than R$ 700 million in its factory in Catalão (GO), where they are produced sugarcane sprayers and harvesters. The project aims to expand the existing infrastructure, enabling the nationalization of the See & Spray™ intelligent spraying tool in order to meet the growing global demand for food.

Project encompasses more than 20 thousand m² in expansions and the creation of approximately 400 new jobs at the Catalão factory in the state of Goiás

“With this expansion of the unit we will have the addition of more than 20 thousand square meters to the 69 thousand square meters of the current plant. To keep up with the company’s exponential growth in Brazil, it is planned to create approximately 400 new jobs from the investment over the next 60 months – 100 direct and 300 indirect”, explains Edison Drescher, director of the John Deere factory in Catalão (GO). .

Computer vision

The investment will enable John Deere to nationalize the production of the See & Spray system, which uses computer vision, artificial intelligence and machine learning to identify and apply herbicides in the exact quantity only where necessary. In tests carried out in Brazil, it was possible to prove with See & Spray Select savings in the use of non-residual herbicides with a maximum reduction potential of up to 97%, contributing to the sustainability of production and bringing economic gains to the producer. The solution uses 30 cameras installed along more than 30 meters of the spray platform, being essential for increasing efficiency in controlling invasive plants.

“With the various investment announcements in Brazil this year, John Deere reinforces its commitment to technological innovation, sustainability and the development of Brazilian agriculture. The company is constantly thinking regarding tropical agriculture with the aim of meeting the needs of its customer, the Brazilian producer”, says Antonio Carrere, vice president of Sales and Marketing at John Deere for Latin America.

Expansion is key

“John Deere is a consolidated multinational, one of the main brands in the agricultural sector in the world, and did not choose Goiás by chance. We have a strategic location, a hard-working people, an economy that grows above the national average and a government that knows how to support those who produce. With this new investment in the expansion of its Catalão factory, and it is a relevant investment, the company shows once once more that it believes in the state. The Government of Goiás is a partner in this initiative, offering infrastructure, security and agility in the analysis of the necessary processes so that, as far as possible and legally, the plan to generate hundreds of new jobs and development in the region comes to fruition as quickly as possible” , comments Ronaldo Caiado, governor of Goiás.
