Kochi: The funeral of Twenty20 activist Deepu, who died due to harassment by CPM activists, was held at 5 pm today. Many Twenty20 activists attended the public viewing and cultural event. Opposition leader VD Satheesan and many others paid their respects at the house.

The body of Deepu, who was killed after post-mortem at Kottayam Medical College, was first brought to Twenty20 Nagar in East Kambalam. Many people came here to pay their last respects. A large contingent of police was deployed in the area ahead of the funeral due to law and order issues. But the funeral was completed very peacefully.

Deepu, who was undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the attack by CPI (M) activists, died on Friday afternoon. After completing the inquest proceedings, Deepu’s body was brought to Kottayam Medical College at night. Postmortem began at 9 p.m.

Deepu sustained head injuries following the assault. Despite the surgery, the internal bleeding continued. His health deteriorated due to liver disease. Deepu’s life was maintained with the help of a ventilator.

Twenty20 activists have accused PVC Sreenijan MLA of being behind the attack on Deepu. But PV Sreenijan denies this.

At the same time, the FIR alleges that Deepu’s murder was politically motivated. According to the police report, political animosity was behind the murder. He was beaten with the intent to kill. I. R. A case has been registered against four CPM activists in the incident.
