343 people died last year
Abu Dhabi: Ministry of Interior officials have stated that the death rate in road accidents has decreased in the UAE last year. 343 people died in various road accidents last year. 46 of them are women. 74 percent of those who died were between the ages of 18 and 45. Abu Dhabi (127), Dubai (120), Ras Al Khaimah (34), Sharjah (33), Ajman (13), Umm al-Khuwain (12) and Fujairah (4). In 2021, the number of road accident deaths was 381.
The number of people injured in accidents has increased. 5045 people were injured in accidents last year. Officials also said that the number of road accidents has increased by 13 percent compared to 2021.
Road Safety UAE said it is taking necessary steps to find out the causes of accidents and implement effective solutions. Director Thomas Edelman said. Distraction of the driver from the road while driving is the main cause of accidents.
Not keeping a safe distance from other vehicles, ignoring traffic signals, drunk driving etc. have also led to accidents. Many initiatives have been launched in the UAE to increase traffic safety. Smart systems are also in place to monitor crime. Officials said that an awareness campaign is being organized to increase public awareness regarding traffic rules.
