Decoding D’Angelo Russell’s Lakers Future: Contract Extension, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura Debates

D’Angelo Russell and the Lakers, here is a file that will have to be followed at the start of this summer. Catastrompfic in the Playoffs, his name is a little headache for the management. Extend it? Yes maybe. At most? Nah, don’t mess around either. And before him, it will above all be necessary to offer a good piece to Austin Reaves then Rui Hachimura. We take stock.

It’s hard to keep a good memory of D’Angelo Russell on this Playoffs campaign. The last thoughts are therefore not to his advantage, but his contribution over the rest of the season leaves him in the race for a contract extension. There are still D’Lo fans in the Lakers offices. Seriously, why bother looking for a new one? LA drafted Jalen Hood-Schifino, it keeps Russell on position 1 and everything will be fine! Well not necessarily, with LeBron in his team, you have to find a way to remain a real contender. So stepping aside following April 10 isn’t the best way to be a real leading role player.

All this makes Los Angeles still wonder regarding the fate of its player: extend it? Maybe, but at what cost? So many unanswered questions that will be answered shortly when the D’Angelo Russell debate is finally closed.

???? Most likely scenario for D’Angelo Russell today: extend at the Lakers.

Difficult to target an amount, but the end of the Playoffs did not help his case. Solid sniper but not the Lakers’ top priority this summer.

D’Angelo signed four years ago with the Warriors for a fee of 117 million. Today, this contract ends and the leader intends to seek to sign a new deal of the same ilk. On the Lakers side, we have other priorities on this Free Agency, such as the extension of Austin Reaves which should be the first priority of the City of Angels. For him, the max should reach 50 million over four years. Then, in the “to keep” box, there is still Rui Hachimura. The interior is coming to the end of his rookie contract, and has been a good asset during this Playoffs campaign. Enough to motivate the Lakers to give him a much larger nest egg than he was able to get before with his 20 million total.

Frankly, we pity the executives of the Lakers for this Free Agency. So much work to do, decisions to make when it’s already over 25 degrees in the sun there… Real torture. But we will have to work and come up with good arguments, especially Mr. Russell who will have to be sold to keep his place in the Lakers.
