Less than half of us – 49 per cent – would vote yes to the EEA agreement if there was a referendum tomorrow, shows a poll conducted for Nations and The class struggle. It is the first time the share has been below 50 percent since the measurements began.
Since November 2021, support has fallen by 16 percentage points. At the time, 65 percent answered that they would vote for the EEA agreement.
In the same period, the proportion who would vote no to the EEA has increased from 19 to 27 per cent. The group who do not know what to answer has increased from 15 to 24 per cent.
This week, the EEA committee presented its report. The committee found that the EEA agreement provides wider and better access to the EU’s internal market than agreements between Canada, Great Britain and Switzerland.
It is particularly working life and electricity prices that have changed in recent years and that have changed the picture, believes Einar Frogner, leader of No to the EU. He believes that increased skepticism is rooted in the fact that Norwegians see that we can cooperate and trade with other countries without the EEA agreement.
The European movement, on the other hand, believes that the picture is regarding people preferring Norwegian membership in the EU. It dawns on many that Norway is in reality a B member of the EU, says Secretary General Fredrik Mellem.
The survey shows that 48 per cent would vote no to the EU, a decrease from 54 per cent three years ago. Almost 32 percent would vote yes, while 21 percent answered they don’t know.
The response percentage is rounded up to whole numbers, so that the percentage is not exactly 100 per cent.
