The employment rate is decreasing in Wallonia, according to the latest figures from Statbel. If we note a slight decline in Flanders (77.2% at the end of 2022 compared to 76.6% in June 2023), the situation is even more worrying: the rate goes from 65.8% to 64.3%. In Brussels, the rate is increasing, from 65.1% to 65.3%.
“It is true that the employment rate is increasing less quickly than in Brussels“, admits Christie Morreale, Walloon Minister of Employment. She was the guest of the Punchers this Sunday.
There are many long-term sick people in Wallonia. They were 14% in 2020 compared to 9.1% in Flanders and 8.9 in Brussels. “This is why we made an agreement with Frank Vandenbroucke to be able to create a single entry point, so that it is only Forem workers who take care of people.“, reacts the minister.
“Today, around 20 to 25% of long-term sick people find employment“, assures Christie Morreale. “We would like to increase it. There are 1,900 people who are currently being monitored so that they can be put back to work. We accelerated the tempo“, she adds.
