For the first time since 2000, Switzerland had fewer than 10,000 journalists in 2021, according to figures from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). While the increase had been constant between 1990 and 2011 – people making a living from their activity in journalism having gone from less than 9,000 to more than 13,000 – things took a serious turn for the worse from 2014.
