Vinmonopolet sold just over 43.5 million liters in the first half of 2024. This is a decrease of around 4 per cent, which corresponds to two million litres.
– The decline continues into July, community and authority contact Halvor Bing Lorentzen at Vinmonopolet tells NTB.
He points to several conditions that might be reasons for the decline in sales, including a natural decline following the pandemic, increasing duty-free and cross-border trade and a period of a lot of bad weather.
– We clearly sell more when the weather is good and warm, says Lorentzen.
He further states that Vinmonopolet has seen certain changes in Norwegians’ alcohol preferences over the past six months. Most red wine is still sold, but white wine is catching on and is mostly sold at a few stores.
– This transition to the lighter and lighter products, such as white wine, rosé wine and sparkling wine is a trend we have seen for some time now, says Lorentzen.
Even so, the figures for the summer show that sales of white wine are falling more than red wine sales. Sales of beer and sides, on the other hand, are increasing. This also applies to non-alcoholic drinks, which have increased by as much as 20 per cent in the last six months.
– Growth also continues into the month of July, in an otherwise falling market, Lorentzen explains.
