As the minister clarified, in detail “in December 2024, 670,000 pensioners with personal differences and pensions of up to 1,600 euros will be given an aid of 100 to 200 euros, 35,000 uninsured elderly will be given an aid of 200 euros, an additional installment to 770,000 beneficiaries of child allowance and 767,000 of the OPECA child allowance. 185,000 beneficiaries of OPECA Disabled Allowance will be given a 200 euro aid and an additional monthly installment of 50% will be paid to the beneficiaries of the Minimum Guaranteed Income”.
Mrs. Zaharaki reminded that there had been an increase in the Minimum Guaranteed Income, for the first time, in December 2023 and even earlier than the government had promised.
“We had promised that the increase would be given in January 2024 and we did it earlier in ’23,” the minister said. The total cost of the three largest subsidies amounts to approximately 1.9 billion euros.
As the minister pointed out, “in order for the benefits to take place and be meaningful, tax evasion must first be combated in order to find out who the real beneficiaries are”. “The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is trying, through the allowances, for the vulnerable social groups to win and not for some to win at the expense of someone else who fully declares his income. We do not stop here and that is why we are implementing a long-term reform effort always with greater justice so that we can support these social groups that really need it” he added.
He reiterated that the “Neighborhood Babysitters” program will be expanded nationwide in 2025, which joined the NSRF.
He also clarified that the program with vouchers for daycare centers and KDAP-Disabled is continuing, noting that “this year, the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, together with European money, gave more than 379 million euros and we will continue to we do this every year.”
