1988: The “man with the suitcase”, Bela Rabelbauer, is found guilty in Vienna of serious fraud as well as involvement in breach of trust and abuse of office and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. The judgment is not final. In 1991 he was sentenced to seven years in prison in the second instance.
1993: Ultranationalist Russian politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky is expelled from Bulgaria following publicly denigrating President Zhelyu Zhelev.
2008: Second day of the Israeli military offensive “Cast Lead” in the Gaza Strip, with dozens of deaths on the Palestinian side.
