Decathlon Travel demonstrates that it is concerned regarding ecology like sports tourists, according to its figures, who mainly choose to travel in France, particularly in the Alps and the Loire Valley.

In 2024, Decathlon’s travel subsidiary is emphasizing “slow travel” – an approach that favors immersion, slowness and in-depth discovery of destinations. This approach encourages travelers to use less polluting means of transport such as trains, and to opt for longer stays in the same place, in order to reduce environmental impact.

As a mission-driven company, the agency is committed to further reducing the average carbon footprint per day and per traveler. The company has notably created a carbon calculator to measure and communicate the impact of each stay. It has also increased its offer of short stays in France fivefold to promote more ecological travel. The company therefore offers almost 50% of stays in France, with a focus on low carbon activities. These stays include hiking, bicycle explorationsand environmentally friendly water activities.

In addition, to combat tourist overcrowding and its environmental impacts, Decathlon offers alternatives to traditional destinations. For example, the ascent of Monte Rosa is presented as an alternative to that of the overcrowded Mont Blanc.

So, believes Decathlon, “the company not only meets the expectations of environmentally conscious travelers, but also contributes to positive change in the tourism industry ».
