Debut and farewell for Pedro Cachín at the Córdoba Open 2023

It was not the expected debut for Pedro Cachín. The Cordovan, 66 in the ATP ranking, fell in the first round of the ATP 250 that opens the South American tour on brick dust, against Hugo Dellien (138), coming from the classification.

The man from Bellville arrived in Córdoba this Tuesday after having been part of the Argentine Davis Cup team that lost in Finland for the Qualifiers of the contest by nations and the change in weather and surface did not go unnoticed for the game of the only local tennis player in the contest Cordoba.

Two early breaks in both the first and the second set made the game irreplaceable for Cachín, who had little time to give his tennis a run on the brick dust of the Kempes Sports Polo. The Bolivian, on the other hand, already has more playing time on this surface.

All about the Cordoba Open

When the Cordovan played low and deep balls, he could hurt the rival’s proposal; also when he made it go up to the network. At times his serve was powerful and winning, but Dellien showed why he topped the rankings.

But clearly what was missing this Wednesday for the Argentine was more time to adapt to a surface on which he has not played since August 2022.

The man from Bellville leaves with a bitter taste for not having been able to overcome the first round, but knowing that he was once again present in the ATP main draw, in which in 2019 he had a very good performance coming from the qualy and reaching the quarterfinals.

“I couldn’t say no because it was playing at home, it was a sacrifice for the trip that was very long, the emotions of the last week, but I enjoyed playing again in Córdoba,” he said after the game.
