Debts and disputes paralyze the summer “mercato” of national clubs

The current summer transfer period (mercato) is witnessing a wide stagnation, due to the sanctions imposed on most national football clubs, which prevented them from contracting.

According to informed sources, these clubs are facing sanctions issued by the Dispute Resolution Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and the International Federation “FIFA”, following losing disputes with former players following the delay in disbursing their financial dues.

The same sources reported, quoting representatives of some national clubs, that the ban on contracts prevented them from strengthening their ranks with new players, noting that regarding 14 clubs, including 10 clubs from the first professional division, are banned from contracts in the current summer period.

The same sources confirmed that all national clubs in the first and second divisions, with the exception of two of them, have major disputes with former players on the table of the Disputes Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

This comes at a time when a group of national clubs find themselves unable to pay their players’ dues that have been pending for some time, which puts them in a scenario of mass migration of a group of players, following they submitted a request to the Professional League to unilaterally terminate their contracts.

The financial situation of national clubs and the way players’ dues are managed remain among the major constraints facing national teams in recent years, which has prompted many players to choose to join clubs outside the Kingdom, even if they lack attractive experiences, just to secure their dues at the end of the football season.
