The death toll in the stampede rose to 174. In this regard, Indonesian President Joko Widodo instructed to review security measures at football matches and conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. He also ordered the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) to halt all Ligue 1 matches pending an investigation.

The incident occurred on the night of October 2 at the stadium in Malang following the match of the 11th round of the Indonesian championship between the clubs “Arema” and “Persebaya” (2:3). Fans of the losing side took to the field following the game, tear gas was used to calm them down. After that, the crush began.

It was initially reported that 127 people died and 180 were injured. At the moment, it is known regarding more than 100 wounded, 11 of whom are in hospital in serious condition.
