**Interview with Dr. ⁢Maria Khoury, Lebanese Health Expert**

**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Khoury. Recently, we’ve seen⁤ alarming statistics regarding the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict in Lebanon. Can you provide us with an ‌overview of the current situation?

**Dr. Khoury:** Thank you for having me. The situation is indeed dire. Official reports‍ indicate that since the⁤ beginning of ⁣the Israeli attacks on October 8, we have tragically lost over 2,700 lives, with more ⁢than 12,500 people injured. The toll continues to rise as‌ airstrikes target various regions, ⁣particularly in the southern parts of Lebanon.

**Editor:** Those numbers ‍are staggering. How has the health system been affected by‍ these attacks?

**Dr. Khoury:** The health system is under immense strain. We’ve lost at ‌least 168 health workers, which⁤ has a significant impact on ⁣our ability to provide care. Additionally, many‌ medical facilities, including hospitals and outpatient centers, have been damaged. This has resulted in a crisis for those needing ‌urgent medical attention.

**Editor:** The displacement of people must add to these challenges. How are those ‍affected⁣ coping?

**Dr. Khoury:** Yes, displacement is a critical concern. Over 1.2 million people ⁣have been forced to leave their homes, and unfortunately, only a small fraction ⁢has found shelter in reception centers. The‍ overcrowding⁣ in these facilities exacerbates the humanitarian crisis and strains resources. ⁢

**Editor:** With the ongoing attacks ⁣and the challenging conditions, what immediate measures are being taken to address these issues?

**Dr. Khoury:** Local ⁤NGOs and international ‌agencies are working ⁢tirelessly to provide aid, but the need is‌ far greater than what can be supplied. We desperately need more humanitarian assistance and support from the global community to help those affected.

**Editor:** Thank you, Dr. Khoury, for shedding light on this critical situation. As the conflict continues, we hope ⁤for a⁣ swift resolution and improved conditions‍ for the people of Lebanon.

**Dr. Khoury:** Thank ⁤you for having me. Awareness is key, and I ⁣appreciate your commitment to covering this crisis.
