It has been a year and a half since young Mahsa Amini was killed in terrible circumstances by the Iranian regime for removing her veil. And it’s been a year and a half since the regime reign terror and attacks all those who express their desire for freedom. And rapper Toomaj is one of them.
Toomaj, he’s a hero over there. He is one of the voices of the resistance from the beginning. He, through his songs, called on the population to protect protesters. He is one of those the mullahs want to silence. He has been in prison several times over the past year and a half. He too was tortured, violently beaten in the face. Broken fingers and legs.
He was therefore sentenced to the death penalty yesterday for “corruption on Earth”, the most serious charge in Iran. As Iranian youth say: “Toomaj is our red line, don’t cross it.” For months, around the world, personalities and politicians have called for his release.
And if it’s not too late, we will relay this call this morning. (I would have liked to hear the French rappers… would it be cool to support Toomaj?) I wanted to point out to you that there is currently in Paris, in the 5th arrondissement, an exhibition of photos and documents on the repression of Iranian women. This is Place du Panthéon. Going to see this exhibition is also an act of resistance.
