Lhe trial of those presumed responsible for the death of Sanda Dia, which was held throughout the week before the Antwerp Court of Appeal, is keeping Flanders (and not only) in suspense. It is because the affair, which has long since passed the status of news item, refers to issues as important as racism, the reproduction of the elites and the excesses of the male inter-self. Faced with justice, 18 members of a very closed circle called “Reuzegom”. These boys (all white, with one exception) from good Flemish society are accused of having subjected the “blue”, the son of a Senegalese immigrant, to an ordeal. The 20-year-old student, who was studying engineering at KU Leuven, did not survive the extreme hardships imposed by the “Reuzegommers”.
