Death of Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta in Mali: towards a national funeral

Former Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta died Sunday morning at his private home in Bamako. Many messages and gestures of compassion. The junta that overthrew him IBK in 2020 must communicate on the organization of a national funeral.

Shortly following the announcement of the death of former Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, says IBK, the junta has issued a press release to salute the memory of the illustrious disappeared. Then, eight Malian ministers accompanied the head of government overnight to the home of the deceased to offer condolences to his family.

What funeral ceremony?

From now on, another press release from the government is expected. It must relate to information relating to the funeral ceremony. The funeral should take place before the end of this week, probably Thursday or Friday. People are expected, first from inside the country, but also from outside.

Ongoing Discussions

On this occasion, the Malian authorities do not hide that the former president will be entitled to the recognition of the nation. An official tribute will therefore be paid to him by the authors of the putsch which overthrew him in August 2020. We do not yet know exactly the details and in what form. Discussions are ongoing with the family of the one who governed Mali from 2013 to 2020.
