The Coroner’s Office is opening an investigation into the unclear circumstances that led to the death of Marc Jodoin, 47.

This is normally the case when a death occurs in violent or obscure circumstances or which appears to have occurred through negligence or when the identity or probable cause of a death is unknown.

“The reason why we erected a security parameter is to secure these elements, which will be taken by our investigators for a more in-depth analysis. This will allow us to establish precisely the circumstances which led to the death,” declared Patrick Kenney, spokesperson for the City of Gatineau Police Department.

“He is still quite close to me. […] Let’s say that I too was quite surprised to learn it. Then, it’s sad to know that we lost a good person,” says Éric, a homeless person.

The mayor of Gatineau, France Bélisle, said she was “sad to learn of a death in the camp. We cannot remain indifferent. My thoughts are with the family, his loved ones and friends. I support all those involved on the ground, who are deeply affected today. “Let us continue our efforts to prevent these situations.”

The Hull-Wright municipal councilor, for his part, speaks of a “collective failure”.

“It was with sadness that I learned yesterday of the loss of a citizen of our community. We will have to wait to know the results of the coroner’s inquest announced this morning before drawing conclusions, but we can already say that this is a collective failure towards the obligation to ensure the safety of all and of all, and particularly the most vulnerable,” he said.

The MP for Hall, Suzanne Tremblay, assures that support will be offered on the ground.

“The collaboration is excellent with all the partners. I think the important thing is to continue to work together, to provide the necessary support.”

Remember that the man was found in a tent on the site of the improvised camp, near the Gîte Ami and the Robert-Guertin arena.

The police were called to intervene around 3:30 p.m. The death was pronounced at the hospital.
