Dean of the Sciences Po School of Public Affairs, advisor to the Minister of the Economy Emmanuel Macron from 2015 to 2017 and former president of the Economic Analysis Council (CAE), the economist Philippe Martin died at the age 57 years old.

The economist Philippe Martin, dean of the Sciences Po School of Public Affairs, has died at the age of 57, the Paris Institute of Political Studies (IEP) announced in a press release on Sunday evening. “A brilliant and recognized economist (…) he was an eminent figure in our institution, from which he was a graduate and to which he devoted part of his career,” praised Sciences Po on X.

Philippe Martin was a “specialist, among other things, in questions of international economics and economic geography”, according to the press release from the IEP of Paris.

A “brilliant researcher”

Advisor to the Minister of the Economy Emmanuel Macron from 2015 to 2017, he was president of the Economic Analysis Council (CAE), an expert body attached to Matignon, from 2018 to 2022. Since February 2022, Philippe Martin was the dean of the School of public affairs.
