Washington (AFP) – American actress Louise Fletcher, Oscar for best actress for her role in the film “Flight over the cuckoo’s nest” by Milos Forman (1975), died in France at the age of 88, have US media reported on Friday.
Louise Fletcher, who had two sons, died at her home in Montdurausse in the South of France, according to Variety and Deadline, citing sources in her entourage.
Born on July 22, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama (United States), Louise Fletcher used sign language to thank her parents, who are both deaf, when she received her Oscar.
Her most notable role was that of nurse Mildred Ratched in ‘Flight Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’, whose main character was played by Jack Nicholson and which also won her the Golden Globe and the BAFTA of the best actress.
She then played in films like “The Player” by Robert Altman or “The Exorcist 2”.
But Fletcher was also a figure of American television, turning in series like “The Incorruptibles” or “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”.
She was nominated for an Emmy Award for her roles in the television series “Picket Fences” (1996) and “Joan de Arcadia” (2004).
Louise Fletcher starred in two episodes of the Netflix show “Girlboss” once more in 2017, according to IMDb.com.
